RE: rainex on visors

I just rode 60 miles in a downpour. This was with no fairing and no windshield; only a visor. The rain didn't give me one bit of trouble, I'd just occasionally wipe it off with my gloves.

RE: First Motorcycle

For a first motorcycle, and a cruiser type, I say don't go larger than a 750. It'll be big enough to get you around but won't have too much power to get you in trouble while learning.
Better yet, take the safety course. You get to ride one of their tiny little 250's or 500's. That'll give you an idea how well you can control one of those bikes and might stop you from making a mistake and buying the biggest baddest bike you can find.

RE: Dumb and Dumber

Well, the rubber is there to give you a grip on the peg. I had a friend who put solid chrome pegs on his bike, and they were nearly impossible to keep my feet on. The wind always pushed them off.
When I was younger and wearing wide leg carpenter jeans, I'd occasionally get the leg of my pants caught on a peg. I was always able to get it loose before dropping the bike though.

RE: Daddy, I want a motorcycle

well at least she is taking a safety course. but there is no way i'd let her get a harley for her first bike. she can take a great course from the local abate chapter for a fraction of the cost. the harley course is a way to rope those with that gleem in their eyes into a bike that they are not ready for. you should encourage her to start small, something like a honda 250 rebel.
They probably offer discounts on Buells, too, so a Blast might be an option.
I started on a 250 Rebel. Great starter bike.

RE: Daddy, I want a motorcycle

Well, at least she's wanting to go about it the right way and take the safety course first. That should give her an idea if she can handle one at this time or not.
If she's of legal age and living on her own, there's really nothing you can do short of not helping her financially with it.
As for the "only child" comment... A child only has one father. She could easily turn your argument around and say she doesn't want to lose her father on a bike.
I personally feel like I was too immature at 18 to ride a motorcycle. I would have ended up a grease spot on the road. Of course, I'm a man, and men seem to have more to prove than women.

RE: Visability for headlight and tail light

I don't know about the particular model that you are checking into, but I believe modulators work. The eye is drawn to "movement" so a pulsing light will draw more attention that a steady one.
I've also noticed the taillights that flash are much more visible, so I think you've made a good choice.

RE: anyone like this color?

I saw a yellow one like that two days ago. It looks better in person, but I still don't like it.

By "Rootbeer," do you mean the pearl black? I like that over the yellow.

I don't care for it, but I have a flat black Harley, a black Triumph, and a black car, so I'm not the best judge.

RE: whick bike GL1800 or K1200LT

My father has a Gl1800 Trike and has no problems pulling a trailer. He even has a trailer he built to haul his riding lawnmower around.

RE: Commuter-Tourer

Not every one that buys a motorcycle wants to tour with it...
The vast majority want a "Pretty Seat", and the arteeeeests that design our pretty bikes also like "Pretty Seats"...
I can't say that a Mustang seat is a beautiful work of art...
But it sure is nice to my butt!
If I bought a Concours14 and it was not nice to my butt;
I'll bet that Mustang does not make a seat for this bike!
What is my poor butt to do???
Mustang makes seats mainly for cruisers.
Sargent and Corbin make comfortable aftermarket seats for most sport and sport touring bikes. I have a Sargent on my Speed Triple and am impressed with the quality, style, and comfort. The worse part was the 350 dollar price tag.

RE: Help on picking sport touring bike

I have two half-brothers and a half-sister that were raised in Panama. It's supposed to be a beautiful place, but the roads that way were pretty bad the last time he drove. This was over 15 years ago, so hopefully they are improved.

The good thing about BMW is most dealers will let you test ride their bikes. Ride one for yourself and see what the vibes are like.

I think you should be happy with that. They are rockets, so watch the throttle for a while.

RE: Help on picking sport touring bike

I am getting intrigued with the idea of ZZR 1200; good performance and readily easily modifiable (seat primarily) to work for sport touring. There is one on ebay in Kansas I am watching - and several on Craig's List - although I am finding communication with folks who have them for sale to be spotty at best. jd
You can get Givi bags for them, too. The mounting hardware is pretty ugly when the bags aren't in place, though.
Ebay can be nice, or it can be a bad place to deal with. Don't trust any deals that are too good to be true, especially the ones that offer free shipping.
Best bet is to find someone local that can check out the bike for you.

RE: Help on picking sport touring bike

Don't even think crotch rocket for touring...
He asked for sport touring. "Crotch Rockets" can make decent sport touring bikes if you change out the bars and seat.

RE: Help on picking sport touring bike

If you're willing to swap out the bars, etc, then the F4i's are good candidates. I've also heard good things about the Suzuki Hayabusas and Kawasaki ZZR1200's.
A friend of mine has a ZRX1200 and rides it on very long rides. The only mods he did to it were aftermarket exhaust and a nicer seat. The Suzuki Bandits as well as SV's have nice ergos, too.

The Triumph Sprint ST's are good sport tourers, and then you always have the Honda VFR Interceptors.

RE: New Guy, got some Q's!

I've known a few guys with the FZ1, and they all loved it. I haven't heard about the new version or that it was a "step back." Unfortunately, I don't know much about the B King either. It's obviously going to be fast with a Hayabusa engine, but other than that, who knows?
You might look around for an SV1000 or other sport twin like the Superhawk. They have plenty of grunt and rev a little higher than a cruiser twin would. They still can't rev like a 4, but I think the torque makes up for it. In fact, one of the funniest bikes I've ever owned was an '01 SV650.
